Fantasy F1: Bit of a problem with these new sprint races. Qualifying is now on the Friday. I don't really want to mess with the rules
mid-season so we'll carry on having teams locked on Friday night, which means you can already see the qualifying results. But the scores are based on the GRID, not the
qualifying, so effectively it's the result of Saturday's sprint race. We'll run with that for now and see how it goes.

Truman Capote was a novelist in the 1960s, responsible for, among other things, Breakfast at Tiffany's. If this movie is
anything to go by, he was also an obnoxious, arrogant, irritating little twat. Philip Seymour Hoffman will be unknown by
name to many of you, though you may recognise his unorthodox and socially inadequate characters, such as the stage hand
in Boogie Nights who becomes infatuated with Dirk Diggler. In playing Truman Capote, he delivers a virtuoso shitbag
interpretation that carries the movie on its own. In fact, the compulsion of watching Hoffman prance around his
sycophantic associates kicks the plot into the sidelines. Catherine Keener (the eventual cherry picker
in 
The production values can't quite match Hoffman's electric presence - there's at least one invasive editing error - and
any scene without Capote comes across as merely time burned until we can see him again. The story itself is actually
fairly thin - very little happens, though what does happen is hard to predict and even poignant in places. Inexperienced
director Bennett Miller toys with the ethical roles, so we're sympathetic towards the bad guys, even after Capote
eventually teases the heinous details of the crime out of the jailbird. Handheld cameras help with the documentary feel without
interfering with the shots themselves, and the drab finish to the images are effective in suggesting a 45-year old
timeframe. The pace never rises above a walk, but it's always enough, with the ending seeming to come sooner rather than
later - always a sign of a movie well enjoyed.
