Happy Feet
Oh lordy, another animation - they just keep on churning them out. Happy Feet is aimed at the kids and I reckon they'll love it.
Happy Feet is great fun and gloriously animated. Prepare to buy your kids a little stuffed penguin for Christmas, they'll be hooked. I enjoyed this film: I think the average moviegoer will enjoy it: Testosterone Satisfaction Rating: To enjoy this film you should be: young.

A serious miss. My 6yo didn't enjoy it at all, my 4xyo said it was too loud. Me (49yo), I was bored. Don't necessarily take me for an old fart though, I enjoyed Finding Nemo, A Shark's Tale and the Wallace & Gromit rabbit thing, this one just didn't make me laugh often enough. Also the premise is pretty weak if it's meant to have any kind of eco-message.

Penguins sing, apparently - and not only that, each one has a "heartsong" (yuk). When little Mumble (Elijah Wood)
pops out and sings like an X Factor hopeful, he's spurned by his tribe (what do you call a group of penguins?
A packet?) and wanders off with his happy dancing feet to have adventures of his own. Spookily, the young penguin
actually looks a little like Frodo, and he doesn't lose his young feathers when all his mates do, which is really a
cunning ploy to help us the viewer tell him apart from the others. Hugh Jackman continues to
astound with his versatility - he could become one of the all-time greats at this rate - while Robin Williams does
what he does best, voicing two energetic characters with his trademark aplomb. The story seemed to be going down
the pan at one point - for a while I thought they were going to have to do something really stupid to pull off the
inevitable conclusion, but when it happened it seemed totally plausible - I was impressed.
The best thing about Happy Feet though, is the quality of the animation. It's simply stunning - easily the best
I've ever seen. We are literally at the point now where the viewer can't tell the difference between computer animation
and live action. This point is nicely proven within the movie itself - but I can't tell you how without ruining a
surprise. It's clear that so much work has gone into the visual aspect of Happy Feet, and it's paid off magnificently.
The water effects are best of all - quite indistinguishable from the real thing. Couple that with the toe-tapping
songs scattered throughout and you might just have enough to entertain adults - but really it's a kids' thing. I take
