Casino Royale
A new Bond, a new start to the franchise. All the stops have been pulled out and yes, the rumours are true, Casino Royale is a doozy.
You may have heard that the Bond theme is not featured in Casino Royale and, yes, it's true, until the end credits at least. However, the replacement score is every bit as rousing and very Bondy, so much so that I didn't miss the traditional theme at all. In fact, the theme song "You Know My Name" by Chris Cornell (from Soundgarden) is so appropriate that I've been humming it to myself ever since - and when it was accompanied by the best opening credits animation since Catch Me If You Can, it really helped to set the scene and to dissipate the bitterness I was feeling towards the cinema for wasting half an hour of my life watching adverts. Well done boys. Casino Royale reaches heights that previous Bond movies could only dream of. Well acted, brilliantly directed and with a screenplay that blows previous efforts into the weeds, it deserves to push-start the Bond bandwagon once more. Of course, now it's rolling, the next one (due late 2008) doesn't need to be as good... I enjoyed this film: I think the average moviegoer will enjoy it: Testosterone Satisfaction Rating: - though you'll wince at Bond's very male torture scene. No swearing, which is pretty rare these days. To enjoy this film you should be: Bond-tolerant.

What more can be said, a fantastic film!!!
The producers of this film should be ashamed of themselves. They should have saved the expense of paying the actors and done the whole thing as a cartoon. The effects were unrealistic and whole thing might just as well been an episode of Tom and Jerry for all the realism seen. How dare they call this Casino Royale - there is no connection with the original story except the title. I can see why they exhort you not to watch this as a pirate download - if you saw a significant part of it, you would not want ot pay a penny to see the rest. Cubby must be turning in his grave.

It was a risk, binning the cheese, but it's paid off. Daniel Craig is a smooth and tough Bond, but he's also vulnerable and
unpolished - and not a very nice man at all.
The story returns to olden times when everyone's favourite superspy had only just graduated to double-O
status. Well, olden times set in the present, as it were. Conveniently ignoring the temporal consistency problems, we're
treated to a meaty, more realistic portrayal of a secret agent's life, with fewer gadgets and more mistakes from the man
in the black tux. Whilst still not coming close to the 
Daniel Craig is, without doubt, the best actor to play the role in the movies. Luckily for him, he's assisted by Campbell's
excellent direction and Paul Haggis's (
A Bond movie wouldn't be complete without a love interest, and sure enough Eva Green soon pops up to tick that box.
